I suspect the current political turmoil that the Tory party find themselves in will mean a freeze on any proposed changes to housing legislation for the forseeable. The old PM will struggle to get anything done, the new PM won't be announced until September. Then there will be a slow easing into the job with lots of other priorities......the war in Ukraine, cost of living crisis, jobs, NHS, education etc to be dealt with. By the time the new PM has his/her feet under the table we'll all have our central heating switched on and be paying £3500 a year for energy.......so that might be focusing political minds rather than housing legislation.

The election is 2 years away so the focus will be on changes to provide a win.......and there really are so many other problems to be sorted.

Edit......none of this applies to Wales who continue to press the self destruct button.

The last sentence still has me chuckling. As I have visions of travelling the last 40 miles of my ingoing journey at 20mph. The WRA are deciding on that today.

Maybe this is what our Gov't's should realise about policy making, slow things down so they might analyse the effects of their changes better.

I'm not sure any housing legislation will be any more than a short deferral though, since it isn't the PM that designs it and pushes it. Other Tory Socialist heroes can continue to do that.

D'ya think Sunak can save the economy that he has been responsible for? Who ever gets the flat at No10 I don't see they can get away with giving us more money via tax cuts, Sunak has spent it.

I fail to understand how Slimy Sunak can be the poster boy of the Conservative Government MP's.  To me, this Man as Chancellor has been a total disaster as a Chancellor and should disappear into the back-benches and never be seen again. Conservative MP's have failed to capture the mood of the Country regarding how much Sunak is disliked both for what he has done to the economy and back stabbing Boris J. and are pressing ahead with his Coronation to be PM.  If he does become PM then the Conservatives will definitely lose the next general election.

...............and to keep it on topic for a Landlord's forum any changes to previous Government landlord tenant reforms will be put on hold at least for a few months and some policies will be kicked into the long grass due to their unpopularity.

I'm disappointed as I hoped David Davies had been discreetly gearing himself up for the leadership challenge.

I don't know much of Mordaunt, but I like what I've heard. Maybe she has some Thatcher qualities.

Believes in Brexit, a change from the Eton mold.

Look after the Penny and the MP's who've nicked our pounds might look better at themselves.

She's an obvious choice......her initials are PM & she is standing for the job of PM. I don't know what other attributes she brings, I've never heard of her before a couple of days ago.

What concerns me is that they will vote for someone, a lightweight,  who is gonna loose the election to Labour in 2 years time.

Wiki can be useful.

It can even make me seem enlightened.

But are we really watching a pantomime, where promises and favour exchanges will see the most influential get the job anyway? As opposed to the best person for the country.

She isn't an ex / failed lawyer either, does this make her unsuitable?

I think I'm with Mel, I wouldn't want to vote for Sunak as our countries figurehead at the next election. Aside from Gove he is the most alien like politician out there. I mean of another planet.

I'm not a Labour voter but I was kinda wondering what type of qualifications does any PM need to run the lives and decide the future of 65 million people

It's heart breaking really.......so, the final 6 candidates.......are we really saying that these people are the best that the Conservative party can put forward ? If they are the best that they can find I don't hold out any hope for the future.

I might as well spend the next couple of years preparing for a Labour win !!!!

On a personal note, I was kinda hoping that Sajid Javid might win......why ?......because I have a letter signed by him and I was thinking if he got to be PM it's value might rise sharply. Always the entreprenuer.

He was also planning to abolish inheritance tax which would have been quite nice

As it happens I know of Penny Mordaunt quite well as I have been following her career for some while. I can see you have looked at her Wiki profile to gain information.  She is a very popular MP for Portsmouth North which is my home city or was for the first 28 years of my life. She is a Commander in the RN reserve. Straight talking no nonsense person but with a good grounding and common sense.

She lived with her parents in Cowplain just outside of Portsmouth and attended a RC school which I know of very well in Waterlooville. My Wife is also a Cowplain Girl.

I hope she gets to be PM but as we all know the dirty tricks brigade of Conservative MP's will be out in force to put what they consider to be their Man Sunak into power. God knows why but in the seedy world of Westminster politics who knows what deals and future job offers are being concocted behind the scenes eh!  If this does happen then the Conservatives will lose the next election as they will have lost the confidence of the UK conservative voter. Fortunately my local Tory MP of 30 years standing fully understands this situation.

Were down to the last 5 now. I'd never heard of 3 of them until a few days ago ! I suspect the general public are not far behind me.

Do the Conservatives really think that electing a Prime Minister that the majority of the country have never heard of is the right way to go ?  This must be one of Boris's plans.......ie make it look like we have a process & that we know what we are doing when in reality ......we haven't got clue.

I've expressed my opinion of Sunak, not high,

Truss is the Tory equivalent of Diane Abbott, although she would have to wear 2 right shoes. But similar intellectual capacity.

I like what Mel informed us of, some I knew, but I would say that.

Assuming Penny M gets to the final round I'm glad it isn't only up to the Tory Westminster elite to decide.

Well that didn't take too long for the dirty ticks brigade to take action against Penny Mordaunt. Lord Frost didn't hold back did he when he gave his quick nasty resume on on PM did he. 😀    The "Establishment" are out to remove any candidate they feel doesn't fit their future controlling agenda.

John Tugendhat MBE  has been asked to step aside today rather than proceed to to the TV debates as has Kemi Badenoch with a thinly disguised statement as having absolutely no chance of proceeding any further than they already have. Perhaps in these two cases they have a point but Liz Truss supporters have asked their backers to back Liz Truss, desperation or what is beginning to show.

Anyway in the final analysis the Sun will rise and the Sun will set whatever happens in the next few days and whatever the outcome the Government will continue to interfere with your lives instead of leaving you alone to get on and live your life.  Any remote Scottish islands coming up for sale?   😄

I'm not quite as cynical as you, I will give Lord Frost the benefit of the doubt. Suppose, just suppose, what he has described of his experience of Penny Mordaunt is true. Would you not want him to share that information ? Voters are free to accept or reject it.

It's a 3 horse race wether the other 2 step aside or not.

I know Penny has a lovely smile and Liz knows a thing or two about cheese but my wife recons that Dishi Rishi is so good looking he will be the new PM........and she is always right.   Remember you heard it here first !
