Chestnut
Beware changing a boiler unless existing one is terminally ill or broken! The small saving in energy will take around 100 years or more to pay off the actual cost (to somebody - probably a tax-payer) of the new one, which of course won't last anywhere near that long. We've been here before! ps. Interesting point about Ideal Isar boilers - if true shouldn't they be replaced under warranty irrespective of any scheme? Melboy
ps. Interesting point about Ideal Isar boilers - if true shouldn't they be replaced under warranty irrespective of any scheme? Ideal Isar boilers suffered from a lot of problems but mainly printed circuit boards (PCB's) failing due to heat problems from the boiler affecting PCB construction. The other major problem was the installation of the boilers and the failure to flush the CH systems prior to fitting the new boilers which allowed the build up of sludge to affect boiler components which lead to boiler failure.. Mortitia
In addition to the above one of my clients looked into this in detail and found the installer only wanted to place 1 rad upstairs in a 3 bed house - and no it was not that well insulated. We suspect it was a matter of costs. Someone is making a lot of money out of this scheme and IMHO they should not be.

True.......my late Mother in Law had a new central heating boiler installation installed for free by Warmfront. They would not or were not permitted to fit a radiator in the 3rd bedroom which was a bit pointless really but it was a free installation and not open to discussion. An Ideal combi condensing boiler was installed and lasted just under 4 years before the landlord replaced it as it was breaking down on a regular basis. Dave A
It would be interesting if the OP came back and responded to the above. I am interested in this for one or potentially two, my initial concern was that I would be asking the tenants some very personal information and would be likely told to mind my own. Having read the above, not sure whether it's worth pursuing? Dave
Chestnut
Some years ago I was asked to check a Warmfront CH offer to a qualifying tenant. As property was then without CH it looked a good deal. Based over 200 miles away, the 'gov' appointed installers were unaware of planning restrictions in local conservation area for their proposed flue outlet through roof. When tenant was informed that landlord would need to apply for PP, offer was withdrawn. Since then property upgraded to CH by local installer, inc. 'good' boiler sited to landlord's requirements at reasonable cost. Quote "Eco-Deal ....is funded by Big Six energy companies" Doesn't that mean most of us pay for it through energy bills? This has been discussed here before and the thread came to the same conclusion ie 1. Those having it installed are usually very happy......there are a few exceptions. 2. The installation wasn't always what one would expect. 3. Those of us who are paying for it are not happy bunnies.
