Irina
Hello, as above. Is it allowed. Seem to be a really nice couple and everything else is ok, but want to run Internet business from the flat. I'd thought that, if caught, they can use "landlord allowed us". Thanks
Carryon Regardless
I can't see a problem, in any case for this sort of harmless business (unless it's webcam porn) I would turn a blind eye. If it is webcam porn provide a link so that I might give a more considered opinion.

If it is webcam porn provide a link so that I might give a more considered opinion. Thanks. We called our management company and were told that it was not allowed, and if somebody complained (say, with too many customers coming), we could end up in court and paying a big fine. I think we'll leave it. If it were a purely Internet business, why even mention it to us? We wouldn't find out, anyway. Probably, document deliveries and clients coming. Thanks, anyway. Grampa
At the end of the day it is your choice as the landlord. To make a decision you need to find out a bit more about the buisness. You could then if you choose to give permission on condition of x,y & z. But also add that you reserve the right to revoke that permission on giving one months notice. Mortitia
I have had a couple of tenants with internet businesses and it was all fine. It doesn't exactly make a lot of noise! One was a web designer another designed programmes for a major aerospace company and the latest works for a large insurance company loss adjusting from home. I think some agents need to get into the 21st century. I would definitely check out THOROUGHLY what the business is about. If innocent, people usually say from the outset what the nature business is. Grampa
I'm surprised the tenant even asked.
Richlist
There are other important considerations......including but not limited to :_ 1. It may be in breach of any mortgage terms & conditions and 2. It may invalidate buildings & contents insurance and 3. It may invalidate any warranties/ guarantees you have. 4. It may affect council tax, utility bills and ultimately your CGT liability in the future 5. If leasehold it may be in breach of your lease. 6. If freehold it may be in breach of restrictive covenants. Then there is a world of difference between : i) A Limited liability company having their registered address at your property and ii) A sole trader trading under their own name. You need to understand the what, when and how of the business before you can determine its impact and ultimattely its acceptability.
Chestnut
Also think of the neighbours! A home office computer is harmless enough but an 'Internet Business' could also involve deliveries, warehousing, and phone calls 24/7.....
