kerbut
I am asking this question on behalf of someone returning to England from France . They have found a property they wish to rent but as they have been out of the country for 13 years (but still retaining a UK bank account ) they have been asked to pay the first 6 months rent up front , I am not sure if this is still legal after the Localism Act last October , am I right ? Richlist
6 months rent in advance can be a big problem for a landlord on so many levels. I avoid it like the plague. Why not suggest rent guarantee insurance or provide a guarantor. I let to people from overseas all the time and have no problem getting rent guarantee insurance. A good job, work and bank references should be perfectly ok.
Mortitia
They can't be credit checked so have the status of a foreign national. Might be even worse when we come out of the EU next week.
