Richlist
Does anyone else send polite reminders to their tenants that .....if they are going away over the Christmas period please remember to leave the heating switched on low to avoid frozen/ damaged water pipes ? Chestnut
....And remove loft trap if any header tanks in loft, especially if loft floor is insulated (usually is). Insurance companies advise this now. Loft temperature follows outside (not inside) temperature within a few degrees (measured it). (Some years ago I did what RL rightly recommends, but nevertheless had frozen/split mains pipes in loft causing rapid devastation to most of house.) Richlist
Fortunately for me the majority of my properties are flats/ maisonettes without tanks/water pipes in lofts. Of those that do have water tanks/pipes in the loft...... * The tanks are located directly above the hot water cylinder and the loft floor under the cold tanks is not insulated . * The loft pipework is all fully insulated and pipes run very close to the tanks. Melboy
Yes I do exactly that in the hope that the tenant's pay attention to the note.
