Melboy
Oh! Really! Most Tenancy contracts state that the Tenant is not permitted to change the locks without the permission of the Landlord. Your Agent is talking rubbish........every Landlord is entitled to a spare set of keys.
F-Prop
I agree with Melboy! What a load of rubbish! A tenant cannot lock you out of your own property! If he changes the locks he should give you and the letting agent a key! I'd demand a key now! Trevor.
guildofresidentiallandlords
I agree. Check your agreement first though, that it does prevent the tenant from changing the locks. You are entitled to a key. Just one thing to mention though, just because you have a key, does not give you the right to enter. Your tenant has what's called "exclusive possession" and the definition of that term includes "the right to exclude the landlord" [street v Mountford (HL) House of Lords [1985] A.C. 809].
