Gail
I have eighteen properties and many of the Tenancy Agreements have lapsed and the Tenancy has fallen into a Periodic Tenancy. I want to increase the rent on some of the properties, as some Tenants are paying less than others in similar properties. I need advise on the correct way to increase the rent, hopefully without upsetting the Tenants. Gail
Trenners
Hi Gail, Whenever you increase the rent you will almost certainly upset the tenants ! No-one likes paying landlords more rent <grin>. The correct way to increase rent is to serve a Section 13 notice stating that you will increase the rent. You need to give the tenant at least 1 months notice (from a rent day) that you are increasing the rent - this gives time for then tenant to give YOU a notice to QUIT if they do not want to pay the additional rent. You can find example section 13 notices on the Internet ..... Hope that helps .... Mark
