Q1. No

Q2. No

The Census is primarily about peoples location in the UK at a given time & date.

Your Tenant is the only person who can legally fill in their Census forms......and no, you could not be prosecuted for an empty property either.

Second homes, holiday homes or vacant properties

Every household in the United Kingdom (UK) has been sent a 2011 Census questionnaire. If you own a second home, holiday home or rental property in the UK, all your properties will have received a questionnaire.

What you need to do for your second or other property depends on whether you were staying overnight on census night, Sunday 27 March.

You were staying on census night

You are responsible for completing and returning the questionnaire. Please complete only the relevant household (H) questions and the visitor (V) questions for this address, and remember to complete and return a census questionnaire for the address where you usually live.

You weren’t staying on census night, but someone else was

Whoever was staying at the address on census night is responsible for completing and returning the questionnaire.

• If they live at your property: they should complete the whole questionnaire.

• If they are visiting, on holiday, or staying temporarily: they should complete only the relevant household (H) questions and the visitor (V) questions.

If you visit the property later and find that the questionnaire has not been completed and returned, we would be grateful if you could just answer the household (H) and visitor (V) questions as best you can. If you don’t know who was staying, please just answer the household questions.

No-one was staying on census night

If no-one was staying at the property on census night then there is no legal requirement for anyone to complete and return the questionnaire for this property. However, a questionnaire has been delivered to every household and if no response is received, census field staff will fill in basic observable details about the property.

There is no obligation to do so, but there are two ways you can help us to make sure the most accurate possible information is collected about that property:

1. visit the property, retrieve the questionnaire, and complete the relevant household questions (H1, H4 and H7-H11 only), or

2. contact the census helpline to arrange for a replacement questionnaire to be delivered to your usual address. Complete the relevant household questions (H1, H4 and H7-H11 only)

Additional information

Postal redirects If you have a postal redirect set up from your second address to your usual address, the census questionnaire will not be redirected because it is addressed to the property and not to a person.

Questionnaire delivery to other addresses If you can’t get to your other address and you would like to include your other property in the census, you can request a replacement questionnaire to be delivered to your usual address. Contact the census helpline to arrange a replacement.

If the address where you usually live is in Scotland but your second home is in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, you will need to fill in a Scottish census questionnaire for your usual address and also complete the appropriate sections of the questionnaire sent to your second home.

If the address of your second home is in Scotland but you usually live in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, you will need to complete the questionnaire sent to your usual address, and also contact the Census in Scotland helpline on 0300 123 1702 for advice on how your second property will be counted.

If you have more than one holiday home this advice still applies for each other property you own in the UK.
