r16chh
Hello, Can any help me, if I were to claim benefits i.e. disability would any rent I get have to be taken into account even if the rent is just coving the mortgage. Any advice welcome. Cheers Richard
Melboy
Short answer Richard is yes. All unearned income has to be considered for tax purposes regardless of whether a person is on benefits or not. You can claim tax relief on your mortgage interest but not the whole amount of mortgage payable. Mel.
GPEL
I read the question differently. You're asking if any rental income would affect your entitlement to benefits. I think it may but you'd need to speak to the service dept as it may be altered by the level of income.
