I have a water softener in my own home that treats all water at the incoming cold mains supply. We don't have a tap that supplies non softned/ treated water. Why would you not be able to drink softener water ? Sometimes people don't like the taste. In our property in Spain we have had a separate filtered water tap fitted for drinking water.
