ARD
I have never activated my telephone line in my rented flat and my new tenant wants to do this but says that BT charge a one off amount of £150 - is this charge to be paid by me or the tenant's? Would BT continue to charge the line rental once the tenant has moved out?
GPEL
The new installation charge is £125inc VAT. You are under no obligation to provide it if not previously agreed to. However, it could be viewed as a property asset to be rolled on to other tenancies and would avoid a disgruntled tenant. If you go with it, or do a 50:50 arrangement, get the tenant to take the contract out in their name and refund the payment on receipt of a copy of their first statement. Matthew
Has there never been one there, as if there has or there is already a point to activate an old one should cost nothing. If there is no point and has never been then I expect you have to pay it, but i would always barter and see where you get if you say NTL(Cable) will fit you up free of charge. Melboy
I think you have been mis-quoted. If your line and point are already in the flat it is not £150 to re-activate.
