Doug
Hello all, I'm planning on letting a leasehold (with share of freehold) flat to a tenant claiming Housing Benefit - my buildings insurance is included as part of my service charge to the management company, but there is an exclusion on the policy for students or tenants claiming Housing Benefit. Assuming the management company are unable or unwilling to upgrade the buildings insurance to cover the tenant, am I able to arrange seperate cover independantly to run alongside the existing cover? If so can anybody make any recommendations as to providers of suitable cover? Thanks in advance
Melboy
You can have additional cover set up by yourself but your new insurance company must inform the management company otherwise you will have conflict of interest in the event of a claim. Make sure you have it all in writing as well. Expect to pay more of a premium as well for a DSS Letting.
nick c
Hi Doug We have a list of selected suppliers in our Insurance section. Please see here - http://www.residentiallandlord.co.uk/insurance.htm Some of these companies can arrange cover for DSS lettings, if you like I could source a contact for you.
