mbennett5 Posted January 18, 2013 Report Share Posted January 18, 2013 Hello everyone, I'm completely new to this game and require some advice from old hands or at least a point in the right direction. I'm hoping to buy my first home in the next 12 months, and am hoping to be a 'resident landlord' renting out 1 or 2 of the spare rooms in my house/flat - I'm looking at around a major airport (my employer) in the UK so I don't think I would have any problem finding tenants, however.... I have never bought a house before, let alone sorted out lettings, is there a check-list or a flowchart of tasks anywhere? I went to my local citizens advice bureau and they were useless!! I know there is a government 'rent a room scheme' but can this scheme be used for more than 1 room? Would the tax exemption apply to the first £4250 on each room or the first £4250?
