Simon Dewsberry
My understanding is not required in a standard BTL just a battery one. Anybody confirm. thanks That is going to depend on : 1.what you mean by a "standard BTL" ? 2.Loc Coun all have individual requirments laid down with a large input from fire officer so differs from council to council.. SPEEDTWIN
If you mean smoke detectors depends what year it was built.I cant remember if it was 1992 0r 1994 onwards there must be a mains powered smoke dectectors fitted. Anything earlier there is no requirement but it would be very silly not to fit at least battery ones. HMO's i think have different rules but i am sure someone on the forum will let you know
russ295
as simon says what is a standard btl, if its your standard 2 bed flat 1 smoke in the passageway mains wired would suffice, if its a 2 bed house, 1 on each landing (interlinked if an easy option), as posted on other threads i wouldnt insist on interlinked if just adding them onto existing, if a rewire, yes, if one goes off regardless of where you would have to be mutton not to hear them! you can get 10yr battery/mains ones quite cheap now and its piece of mind, battery ones, when they go off your tenant will prob remove the battery and forget to put it back in. russ
