Simon Dewsberry
Hi jimtim Depends on the door ! Council will probaby accept the lock being "deactivated" and two good slide bolts on top and bottom of door ...this is probably your cheapest option .....you can use any lock you like as long as you do not need a key or any other instrument to unlock it (to aid immediate evacuation of building) ring and ask them ? For a while they were accepting a key in a break glass box next to the door, but dont think you can get away with this anymore ! Simon
Simon Dewsberry
In answer to first question you can buy a thumb lock mortice in B & Q around £10-£40 depending on quality and they are exactly the same "security" just has a thumb turn on the inside instead of a key !
