lodgers or shared tenancy

3 young people (working, not students) want to rent a house from me. Is it best to make 1 the tenant with an AST and the right to have lodgers or to make them joint tenants (there's probably a proper term for that) sharing responsibilities and liabilities? If the former how would I stand if the tenant wished to leave and the othes didn't? Thanks in advance
