hein25
Hi, I am doing my tax return for tax year 2010/2011. My question is ,I have been trying to sell an ex rental property that has been empty (no tenant)since April 1st 2010 ,it still has not sold however I have had ground rent ,insurance ,council tax ,maintenance to pay and no income from it .Do I deduct these expenses when I eventually sell the property or can any of it be set against tax for 2010/2011? Thank you .hein25
Mortitia
Hi, You can set them against tax purposes for 2010/2011. When you sell the property the ground rents etc are usually apportioned between buyer and seller. In theory you should inform HMRC of this.
